Think of it this way, just opening the ZIP file is like opening a glass jar (you can see the contents, but can’t access all of the content). *If you fail to extract the contents of the ZIP file to a folder on your computer first, you will have issues especially with trying to paste the map to a Fenix or similar device (the option to Paste will be greyed out). The map file must be placed in the GARMIN folder, or it won’t be recognised by the device. IMG or called a Disk Image file) and paste it in to your Garmin. Simply download the file you are interested in, make sure that you unzip the contents of the ZIP file to a folder on your computer ( extract all the files from the ZIP to a folder on your computer *), then go to the folder that the files were extracted to, select the map file (the one ending in. There is no reason to keep older versions on the Garmin or MicroSD card, if you wish to keep the older version, simply copy them to a suitable folder on your computer. If you are installing an updated version of the map, you MUST remove the older version of the map first, as otherwise you may have issues and the Garmin may fail to boot (as mentioned above). This problem with having multiple copies of the same map on a device exists regardless of where the maps come from, including direct from Garmin!

This is ONLY a problem if you have more than one copy of the SAME map on the device at the same time.Īll of my maps will happily co-exist with each other such as France, British Isles, Spain, India, Japan and so on. Please ensure that you only have ONE copy of each of my contours maps (Standard, TT 1:50 Look n Feel/ TT HD Topo/TT HD Topo Pro) on the internal memory and/or a MicroSD card at a time as otherwise your Garmin may fail to boot, and in the worst case scenario you may have to replace the device.
